getting it on

yesterday, kala and i went to lunch at a new little diner on frankford called westside cafe. we both got a cheeseburger and fries and agreed that "westside cafe" sounds a bit gang-stah.

after gobbling up what will contribute to heart disease in our 40's, we had some time to blow before returning to the office. so we went to barnes and noble (not "nobles", contrary to popular belief). while perusing books, we *happened* upon the "relationships & sex" section.

now obviously there are many books lounging around on the shelves of this section, whistling out at innocent by passers, tempting us to pick them up and thumb through their pages. ohhh, yeaaahh – you know what i'm talkin' 'bout. on this particular visit, one book practically threw itself at me. i couldn't fight off the temptation and gave in to its request for attention. it was titled, "guide to getting it on!"

i laughed and pointed it out to kala, who eagerly snatched it off the shelf. the book was chock-FULL of illustrations demonstrating all sorts of explicit sexual acts and detailed drawings of body parts.

now, i'm not sure what made us laugh so hard at this book… was it the idea that someone might purchase this thing, take notes and then implement the "lessons" on some poor unsuspecting soul? was it the frightful thought that there are possibly people out there who are incapable of figuring these things out on their own? or was it the disturbing fact that there seemed to be a freakin' CAT in every illustration, looking on while people were, as the author put it, getting it on? yes, i think the funniest and most disturbing aspect of this book was the thematic cat.
